Cascade Bicycle Club Ride Calendar for March 1995

Helmets are required on all Cascade Bicycle Club rides. All the rides are classified according to pace and the type of services provided by the ride leader.

Wednesday, March 1st

Alki Strenuous

Ride starts with the brisk group and then after warm-up will increase pace to strenuous. This group will most likely go 5 miles farther than the brisk group. Dinner stop at Spiro's Pizza (with the brisk group) after the ride. Helmets and lights required.

Alki Wednesday Night Series - Brisk

Ride leaves promptly at 7:05 p.m. HELMETS AND LIGHTS REQUIRED! Reflective vests recommended. Route varies every week. Dinner stop at Spiro's Pizza after the ride.

More STP Training - SE Edition

Fast paceline rides 20 to 23 mph (level, no wind) from Renton to surrounding areas (Bellevue, Issaquah, Kent, Mercer Island). Depending on turnout, ride will split into two groups. Route will be determined at ride start depending on weather and group consensus. Each route will have a few good hills or short sprints. Riders will "re-group" into a paceline at top of hills and after sprints. Routes and distance will vary depending on weather.

In-city year round training series. Lights required. Mountain bikes recommended.

FRUMP - Southworth to Port Orchard

We'll take the 10:15 Southworth Ferry. This is Woods Ride #44. The Route follows the shoreline for most of the way. Lots of good scenery and migratory waterfowl to check out. Lunch in Port Orchard.

Fun Ride - Let's Go Shopping!

A light work-out before the strenuous stuff, Westlake Mall! Visa/Mastercard definitely accepted here. We'll plan our purchases as we ride around Fishermans Terminal and Magnolia, coming in under the Monorail. Lunch and browse, then a short ride back to Gasworks.

Eastside Loop

Join Jack's Pack at Tracy Owen Station (formerly Logboom Park) for a ride through Kirkland and Bellevue to Renton, and then back North to Marymoor Park in Redmond before returning to Kenmore on the Sammamish River Trail.

Coalfield - Tiger Mountain

Take Exit #5 from I-405 go 4.4 miles East on Highway 900 to 164th Avenue SE and go 1/2 mile to Coalfield Park. Lunch stop at Tiger Mountain Store. Bring or buy. Rural ride in May Valley area. Stick together group.

This is a warm-up ride for those wanting a faster pace and extra miles prior to the Alki Sunday Ride Part II. This is a stick together group. Ride from West Seattle to Lake Washington and back. We'll get back in time for Alki Ride Part II.

Alki Sunday Ride Part II

This route will go from West Seattle to the scenic views of 3-Tree Point and Marine View Drive SW. If it's sunny, we guarantee great views of snow-capped mountains and water. This is a stick together group. Ken and Judy: now that you're in shape after Chilly Hilly, this ride is for you! Lunch/Dinner stop at Pegasus Pizza after the ride.

Ride to Seward Park and return by different routes. Work on paceline cadence and fun. Lights and helmets required.

STP Training Ride - SE Edition

Ride leader also Bill Wakeley 228-4365. Year-round training rides every Tuesday, which stress safety, fitness and group riding skills. Fast paceline rides 20-23 mph (level, no-wind) from Renton to surrounding areas (Bellevue, Issaquah, May Valley, Kent, or Mercer Island). Large turnout splits into 2 groups. Light rain/showers tolerated, but Monsoon cancels. During dark winter months, lights are required, fenders recommended; mountain bikes with road tires are popular.

Take Burien Exit off SR509. Head West to 4th Avenue SW then South to SW 150th Street. We'll ride South along Puget Sound then North along the Green River. Lunch at Mirabella's or bring lunch to eat in Russell Road Park.

Snohomish North (Again?)

Dan Garretson at 747-5273 is also a ride leader. Parking lot is 2 miles North of Snohomish on Maple. Once again we'll ride North from Snohomish in defiance of the Rain God since our January ride was rained out. Enjoy the back roads of Eastern Snohomish County. Take exit 192 on I-5. Take 41st St. exit (from South) after leaving Freeway. Right at next Street (3rd). Follow road as it curves left and turn left at 2nd Street. One block to parking area.

Railride II

Directions to start: Enter U.W. Campus at NE 45 and 17th NE, Museum is on right, park in lot N-1 to South of Museum, free parking on Sundays. Coffee Shop opens at 9 a.m. We continue exploration of Burke and Gilman's Railroad, the SLS&E, from the Museum named in his honor. Cafe lunch at mile 30. Welcome Cascade Newcomers! This ride is designed for those folks who are NEW TO CASCADE GROUP RIDES. We will start with a short talk about ride necessities. Then we will go on a short scenic ride that will include riding in a variety of traffic situations with a short stop for carbs/latte. Please bring a helmet, full water bottles, raingear and a roadworthy bike. Call ride leader for directions, etc.

A short ride to attend the live radio broadcast of "Sandy Bradley's Potluck" ($5). Followed by a longer ride along Lake Washington with a lunch stop (mileage depends on weather). Late risers meet us at the Museum of History and Industry bike racks.

Sisters Spring Century/Metric Century

There are two start locations: 7:00 a.m. Ferry Terminal Bainbridge Island or 9:00 a.m. Port Ludlow Grocery Store. Second Annual Meeting of the cycling sisters, Beth and B. Sue of Port Townsend and Bainbridge Island. Century riders start in Port Townsend or Bainbridge Island, meet metric century riders in Port Ludlow. From here the ride goes to Quilcene and loops the beautiful Toandos Peninsula. Moderate and brisk pace ride leaders.

Issaquah - Fall City - North Bend Loop

Directions to start: Take Exit 15 off I-90 and turn south, there is an intersection of SR900 and SE Newport Way. We may also include Pine Lake. Lunch stop in North Bend. This is a joint ride with the Seattle Mountaineers.
