Helmets are required on all Cascade Bicycle Club rides. All the rides are classified according to pace and the type of services provided by the ride leader.

Thursday, December 1st

More STP Training - SE Edition

Fast paceline rides 20 to 23 mph (level, no wind) from Renton to surrounding areas (Bellevue, Issaquah, Kent, Mercer Island). Depending on turnout, ride will split into two groups. Route will be determined at ride start depending on weather and group consensus. Each route will have a few good hills or short sprints. Riders will "re-group" into a paceline at top of hills and after sprints. Routes and distance will vary depending on weather.

Myrtle Edwards Thursday Night

An in-city year round training series for brisk riders. Lights necessary, mountain bikes not, but recommended for riding in darkness.

Cruzin'the Boulevard

Join the Cruzin' the Boulevard series for December. For the uninitiated, we will ride from Gasworks Park to Seward Park and back via the Arboretum every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday in December, except there will be no formal Cruzin' ride on Monday, December 26th (the day after Christmas Day) (but call the leader to arrange an informal day-after-Christmas ride). In general, we'll travel 16-22 mph (with a social-paced loop around lower Seward Park). Heavy or steady rain cancels.

Frumps Head North from the Honey Bear

We'll take the Greenlake - Meridian - Shoreline route to Edmonds and work our way back via the Burke-Gilman Trail. Lunch at Brusseau's. Heavy rain, ice, snow, cancels.

Tour De Winterhook

Start Location: Red Hook Brewery - across from Chateau St. Michelle on 145th. We'll tour some scenic high points around the Sammamish River Valley, followed by lunch and tasting of this year's Winterhook Ale. If it's raining, meet at 12:30 for sipping and eating.

Red Dwarf Windtrainer Classic/Pot Luck

A chance to train, visit and party with fellow Cascadians. Weather and pace will not be a reason to be cooped up inside your little sheltered hole. We will watch the British sci fi comedy "Red Dwarf" videos (no commercials) while exercising indoors. Call me for more info. Non-exercisers and family welcome too.

Now that the election is over, can't we "just all get along?" Start in the heart of liberal Seattle and cruise along the lake over the island to that Bastion of conservatism, Bellevue. Tour around B-town and head back to the westside.

Can There Be Too Much Coffee?

Directions to Start Location: South entrance to the Burke Museum on U.W. campus (just inside the campus entry at 45 St. NE and NE 17th Avenue). Find out on this ride. Boiserie Cafe opens at 9 a.m. for the refreshment part of the ride (part 1). Ride will bring us to Brusseau's in Edmonds for refreshments (part 2). We will be back at the Boiserie before closing for those who need still further caffeinated refreshments. Free parking on Sundays, lot N-1 is right next to the Cafe.

Island City Sunday Brisk

Off-season training series for brisk and moderate riders. Routes are all loops in North and Central Kitsap county, with occasional diversions to the Olympic Penninsula. East bound riders must catch the 7:50 a.m. ferry from downtown.

Maplewood to Mercer Island

We will wide from Maplewood Playfield to Mercer Island, once around the island, eat lunch, then if time allows and if we feel like it, circle the island a second time and return via Beacon Avenue. Direction to start: Take Columbia Way exit from I-5, south on 15th, right on Snoqualmie to 12th Avenue South.

Single bikes still welcome and tandems are encouraged to come hammer the "Five Lakes" route. No one gets dropped. Icy conditions cancel.

STP Training Ride - SE Edition

Ride Leader also Bill Wakely, 228-4365. Year-round training rides every Tuesday, which stress safety, fitness and group riding skills. Fast paceline rides 20-23 mph (level, no-wind) from Renton to surrounding areas (Bellevue, Issaquah, May Valley, Kent, or Mercer Island). Large turnout splits into 2 groups. Light rain/shower is tolerated, but Monsoon cancels. During dark winter months, lights are required, fenders recommended. Mountain bikes with road tires are popular.

Ride leaves promptly at 7:05 p.m. The pace this month will be between high moderate to low brisk. We will feature Christmas rides this month which includes rides to Olympic Manor and Candy Cane Lane. HELMET AND HEADLIGHTS REQUIRED! Dinner stop at Spiro's Pizza after the ride. This is a stick together group.

Directions to Start Location: Take exit 149 from I-5, SR 516 to the Meeker Street exit, East on Meeker, left on Russell Road to the Park. A South Sound loop through Redondo Beach, Dash Point and Brown's Point. Lunch at Sumner's Gast House Bakery. Heavy rain, ice, snow cancels.

Check It Out! METRO Bike Racks

Try out the new bike racks on the front of all METRO buses! This is not a group bus trip, but a celebration and new way to get to the starting point. You cycle to your local METRO stop, where you find out how easy it is to load up and speed into downtown. Then, unload at the edge of the free ride zone and pedal to Westlake Mall. Arrive between 10:00 and 10:30, to celebrate with FREE lattes, etc. at the SBC Coffee Shop. At 10:30, we will ride as a group and pedal around Mercer Island. Our route will include the recently completed bikeway beside I-90 and Pine Street bike lanes. Rain may shorten the ride. Optional lunch, shopping, etc. before you catch your bus home. See separate article for tips on using the bike racks.

Bicycle Santa Claus Ride

Check out the holiday lights, and HO, HO, HO at the passers-by. Bring lights, helmet, a decorated bicycle if you want, and a silly disposition for an extremely leisurely ride to Olympic Manor (north of Ballard) and back to Ravenna. Come as Santa if you want--the more the merrier. Rain or snow cancels.

Directions to Start Location: 12th Avenue South and South Snoqualmie Street (Take Columbia Way exit from I-5, continue about 1 mile south on 15th Avenue South, turn right on Snoqualmie to 12th South). We'll travel across Beacon and Capitol Hills to the Burke Gilman Trail, have lunch at the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Cafeteria and loop back along Lake Washington and Cheasty Boulevards.
